Village in the Shade Missables & Point of No Return Guide
A few setup choices are fixed on the current save. Other content is easier to miss than to lose forever: a Request can expire, a crop may wait for another season, and a festival may wait for another year. This page separates those costs instead of using a simple missable or safe label.
The short answer
The starting mode, protagonist name, livestock names and crop or brand names are the clearest permanently fixed choices currently documented. Seasonal and posted content can be missed for its current window, but that is not automatically a permanent completion lockout.
The ending choice changes presentation and some dialogue or appearance details, while current Japanese guide data reports the same core playable postgame after either branch.
Classification
Missables at a glance
Each entry has one primary classification. A later save can be a recovery route without making the underlying mechanic editable.
Permanent
4
Mode and naming decisions fixed after confirmation.
Current window
1
A posted Request can expire at its deadline.
Later cycle
2
Season, year and recurring-event timing costs.
Permanent choices
What is permanently locked in?
These are the clearest current-save decisions. Permanent does not mean they block Catalog, achievements or overall completion.
Game mode
PermanentThe starting mode cannot be switched on the same save. The Japanese release calls the safer option あんしん暮しモード; Peaceful Life Mode is the current official Western marketing term, while this site has historically used Village in the Sunshine.

PermanentThe name is fixed after confirmation. Starting another save is the reliable way to use a different name.

PermanentTreat a confirmed animal name as final. A retained older state may help only if it predates the purchase and naming action.
Open the related guideCrop or brand name
PermanentTreat a confirmed crop or produce brand name as final. The current terminology is crop branding, not a separate item type.
Open the related guideThe Japanese release uses あんしん暮しモード for the safer starting mode. The current official Western marketing site uses Peaceful Life Mode; this site has historically used Village in the Sunshine. The official Western page is marketing terminology for an unreleased October 27, 2026 release at the time of this update, not a claim about a released English UI.
Season and deadline
Things you can miss for a season or window
Missing it now has a real gameplay cost. It is not the same as proving a permanent save lock.
Seasonal crops, festivals, contests and birthdays
Planting and harvest timing can push a crop into a later valid cycle. Missing an annual event generally means waiting for its next scheduled occurrence. Use the Crops guide, Festival and Contest guide and Birthday guide for exact mechanics.
Requests
A specific posted Request can expire when its deadline passes. Current evidence does not establish ordinary Requests as permanently locking the player out of long-term completion. Do not assume the exact same Request, exact reward or a permanent trophy lock without separate evidence. See the Requests guide for deadlines and task boundaries.
Save recovery
Can Save History undo a mistake?
Sometimes, if a retained state predates the choice. It remains a rollback, not an edit.
Patch
Ver.1.09
Current history baseline
Retained
5
previous save states
Platforms
Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Steam and Windows
Only saves created after applying Ver.1.09 are eligible. These are historical save states, not five full calendar days or a selective undo. Loading one rolls back progress made after that snapshot, and an old enough state may no longer be retained. Select a previous save from the save-data selection screen.
Use the Save System guide for save slots, autosave and Clear Data. Missables only uses the history feature to explain recovery risk.
Point of no return
Is there a single hard lockout?
No universal core-postgame lockout is established by the current evidence. There are still meaningful branches and fixed setup decisions.
The finale is a meaningful branch
The final choice changes the ending presentation and some character dialogue or appearance details. It is not described here as a Good, Bad or True ending, and current evidence does not show either choice removing the core playable postgame.
Open the Ending GuideClear Data and replay
If you want both branches, preserve a pre-choice save or history state. Current Japanese guidance says declining the post-ending save returns you to the final flow, but you may need to repeat the boss sequence. Saving Clear Data can remove that immediate alternate-ending route.
Open the Postgame GuideEnding Choice - Spoilers
Two documented final options
Spoilers are contained to this section. Neither option is ranked.
一緒に帰ろ
Current Japanese guide data reports a different ending presentation, including a protagonist appearance change and a Kodama-related result.
ここに残る
Current Japanese guide data reports a different presentation, including different character dialogue and the protagonist appearance remaining unchanged.
Both branches are reported to continue into the same core playable postgame, but they are not literally identical scenes. If comparing both matters, verify a suitable pre-choice state under Previous Save Data; retained history does not guarantee recovery of both branches.
Change later
What can be changed later?
Appearance editing and historical recovery are different from renaming a fixed choice.
Appearance and clothing
Appearance and clothing are changeable later through the documented Dresser or Vanity and Wardrobe concepts. Use Character Customization for the current slot and facility boundary.
Names remain separate
Changing clothes does not rename the protagonist, an animal or a crop brand. A retained save may let you redo an earlier action, but it can also roll back unrelated progress.
Collections and achievements
What about Lost Books, Helping Tickets and achievements?
The site keeps unresolved completion implications visible instead of promising universal recovery.
Lost Books collection
Current evidence does not show the Lost Books collection as permanently missable. Individual spawn conditions remain owned by the Lost Books guide.
Open the related guideHelping Tickets
Helping Tickets have progression timing, but the current source set does not prove a permanent expiration rule or guaranteed reissue behavior.
Open the related guideAchievements
The current platform achievement set does not mark these setup or cycle choices as permanently missable in the repository. The 100 ordinary Request condition belongs to the Achievements guide; an expired Request does not count, but no permanent overall lockout is established here.
The Catalog guide and Completion Roadmap own totals and ordering. This page only reports whether current evidence supports a permanent miss or a recoverable delay.
FAQ
Missables questions
What is permanently locked in?
The clearest permanent choices currently documented are the starting game mode, protagonist name, livestock names and crop or produce brand names. This is not a claim that the full save becomes impossible to complete.
Can a posted Request expire?
Yes. A specific posted Request can expire when its deadline passes. Current evidence does not establish ordinary Requests as permanently locking the player out of long-term completion, and it does not prove that the exact same Request or reward must return.
Do seasonal crops and festivals come back?
Missing a seasonal planting window, festival, contest or birthday costs the current cycle and may require waiting for a later one. Recurrence does not prove that every exact reward or outcome repeats.
Does Ver.1.09 give a five-day rewind?
No. The patch retains five previous save states for eligible save data. They are snapshots, not five full calendar days, and loading one rolls back all progress after that snapshot.
Can I see both ending choices?
Yes, with replay risk. Verifying a retained pre-choice Save History state is the safest way to reduce replay, but the game may require repeating the final sequence and the rolling history is not guaranteed to retain the needed state.
Is there a point of no return?
There is no single universal hard lockout for the core playable postgame established by the current evidence. The finale has a meaningful branch, while naming and mode choices are fixed earlier.
Can appearance and clothing be changed later?
Yes, current Japanese guidance supports changing the protagonist's appearance and clothing through the later appearance facilities. This does not include the protagonist name.
Are Lost Books or Helping Tickets permanently missable?
Not currently proven. Both have condition or progression boundaries, but the current source set does not establish a permanent collection lock or guaranteed reissue rule.
Useful before the finale
Confirm fixed names and mode early, check active Requests before their deadlines, prepare for current seasonal windows, and verify a recent pre-choice Save History state if you want to compare both branches. A cycle miss is real, but it is not automatically a permanent completion blocker.
