Village in the Shade Character Customization Guide

Yes, the protagonist is customizable. The starting appearance is not permanently locked: current Japanese guides report that 鏡台 and 洋服棚 can reopen costume and appearance changes later. This guide keeps the exact facility roles, item taxonomy and unresolved cosmetic pools explicit.

Character Creation at the Start

The official site confirms hair, clothing and accessories. Current released-game Japanese data gives the six working slot labels below. It does not justify a total option count or a complete fashion list.

Name

A name is chosen during file creation. The current Japanese default is Ame (アメ), and the name is not an appearance-furniture setting.

Body, gender and face

No canonical record currently confirms selectable gender, body type, face, eyes, skin tone, pronouns or voice. These remain unknown.

Mode

Shade or Sunshine is a separate save-level choice. It is not included in the six appearance slots.

Can You Redo Character Creation?

Yes, for documented appearance

The current Missables record marks appearance and clothing as changeable later under mirror-or-wardrobe. You do not need to restart only because you dislike the starting look.

See appearance facilities

Not a full reset

Ame is the current default Japanese protagonist name. The name is not editable through appearance furniture. Body, gender and other unverified creator settings must not be assumed changeable. Mode is also not switchable on the current save.

How to Change Your Appearance

The safe workflow is to obtain and access a functional appearance-edit furniture item, interact with it, then choose from the documented appearance options that the game exposes. The source set confirms the result, but does not justify invented button names, exact menu tabs or a universal fee.

Step 1

Obtain a functional appearance furniture item.

Step 2

Place or access it according to the furniture system.

Step 3

Interact with the item.

Step 4

Select an available appearance option.

dresser-vanity

Dresser / Vanity (鏡台)

Acquisition, stable entity ID, placement requirement, interaction cost and exact editable slots: Unknown.

The current source confirms later appearance editing through the Dresser/Mirror concept, but the repository does not normalize a stable furniture entity ID, color family or per-slot function table.

wardrobe

Wardrobe (洋服棚)

Acquisition, stable entity ID, placement requirement, interaction cost and exact editable slots: Unknown.

Wardrobe is included in the later appearance condition, but the current repository does not prove whether it edits the same slots as Dresser/Vanity or clothing only.

The two furniture names are kept as separate source concepts because the Japanese guides name both. Their exact role split is unknown. Do not assume one only edits hair or that both open identical menus.

Dressing Table / Vanity and Mirror Terms

Working terminology

Dressing Table / Vanity (鏡台)

The Japanese source name is 鏡台. “Mirror” is retained as a search alias because English guide summaries use that shorthand. This page does not treat Mirror as a third independent facility, and it does not assign unverified hair, color or accessory controls to the item.

Wardrobe

The Japanese source name is 洋服棚, represented here by the working English label Wardrobe. It is named as a later appearance-change facility, but its entity IDs, acquisition source, placement location, editable slot set and overlap with the Dressing Table are all Unknown. Do not collapse it into Dressing Table behavior or infer that it changes hair.

Front Hair, Back Hair & Hair Color

Front Hair and Back Hair remain separate slot IDs. The repository does not prove whether they combine as parts, whether Tamatebako rewards one part or a full style, whether all creation colors remain available later, or whether any color is unlocked independently.

Hair Color count

No hairstyle names are invented from images. The unlockable hairstyle count is also unknown because Tamatebako's shared reward record stores a category with null count and no exact reward IDs.

Clothing and Accessories

The shared Shops dataset supplies the verified records below. These are examples from the current structured shop data, not a claim that the cosmetic pool is complete. Prices, hours, rotation and progression remain owned by Shops and Shop Inventory Unlocks.

Neck slot / くび

A separate neck creation slot is canonical. Its item class, English localization and later editor mapping are Unknown. Do not translate it as Necklace without UI evidence.

Colors and gameplay effects

Clothing and accessory color variants, equip-state semantics, inventory behavior and gameplay effects are Unknown. No HP, Stamina, Friendship, movement, weather or luck bonus is claimed.

Where to Get Clothes, Hairstyles and Accessories

Initial creator

Six creation slots are documented. Complete initial option lists and counts are Unknown.

Chinana Street Vendor

The current shared data contains four verified clothing records and five verified accessory records. Exact rotation order is not duplicated here.

Moving Treasure Box

Hairstyles are one documented reward category alongside Blueprints. This page does not claim a guaranteed hairstyle or an exclusive source.

Tamatebako encounter authority

Midnight events

Pajamas is a documented Bake Rabbit reward and Jinbei is a documented Kappa reward. Wearable status is handled separately below.

Bake Rabbit authority

Dyeing Table

The Dyeing Table recolors compatible furniture. It is not evidence of player Hair Color, Clothing Color or Accessory Color editing.

Other sources

Complete festival, friendship, story and achievement cosmetic pools are Unknown. No full fashion database is invented here.

Special Cosmetic Rewards

Event rewards can look like clothing without sharing the ordinary shop taxonomy. Only the current Pajamas record is treated as a verified clothing or costume reward. Jinbei is shown as a lead until its wearable category is independently exposed.

Verified wearable category

Pajamas (パジャマ)

Source: Bake Rabbit / 化け兎. Category: clothing / costume.

The current event guide classifies this documented reward as clothing/costume. Guarantee and repeat acquisition remain unverified.

Jinbei (甚平)

Source: Summer Kappa / 河童. Category: special reward.

The reward is documented, but the current shared record does not expose an equipment or clothing category. It is not counted as a verified wearable here.

How to Unlock More Hairstyles

The reward pool also contains Blueprints and Talismans. A Blueprint result does not prove the cosmetic pool is complete, and one special Tamatebako reward does not prove all hairstyles are obtained.

Cosmetic Mechanics

Ownership model

Whether a purchased cosmetic becomes a permanent editor option, a physical inventory item or both is Unknown.

Duplicates and selling

Duplicate purchase rules, resale, sell prices and whether selling removes access are Unknown. Do not sell a cosmetic based on an assumed inventory model.

Gameplay effects

Current records document no ordinary clothing or accessory bonus for HP, Stamina, speed, weather, hunting or Friendship. This is an evidence boundary, not a claim that every special reward is harmless.

Repeat changes

The fee, time cost and repeatability of appearance changes are Unknown. The page does not promise free or unlimited changes.

Catalog

Cosmetic Catalog tracking and a requirement for full completion are Unknown. Furniture registration is a separate Catalog question.

Catalog authority

Tools are separate

Tools, hunting licenses and other equipment are not character cosmetics. Raincoat, Goggles and Glasses names do not establish gameplay effects.

Character Customization vs the Dyeing Table

Appearance furniture

Dressing Table / Vanity and Wardrobe concern the protagonist's appearance, using the documented later-change boundary.

Furniture color

The Dyeing Table / 染色台 changes the color of compatible furniture. Current evidence does not support dyeing clothing, hair or accessories.

Dyeing Table authority

Final wording: Wardrobe and Dressing Table change documented character appearance; the Dyeing Table is a separate furniture-recoloring system.

Story-Driven Appearance Changes

Spoiler-safe boundary

Normal customization is separate from story presentation

The Endings authority owns story-specific protagonist appearance or presentation states. This guide does not name or spoil a particular ending state, and it does not claim whether normal appearance furniture overrides, preserves or reverses it.

Mode Differences: Shade and Sunshine

Village in the Shade

The current repository records appearance support and the Midnight Tamatebako hairstyle relation for this mode baseline.

Village in the Sunshine

Shared customization support is recorded. Identical per-slot editors, shop stock, hairstyle pool and alternate Tamatebako source are Unknown. Do not infer parity or unavailability.

Mode is not a customization setting and cannot be switched mid-save under the current rules. See Save System and Missables.

Are Cosmetics Needed for Completion?

Cosmetic option unlocks and furniture Catalog entries are separate. The repository does not prove universal Catalog tracking or a cosmetic requirement for full completion.

Common Problems

I want to rename my character

The current game does not allow protagonist renaming after confirmation. Appearance editing is a separate system.

I dislike my starting hairstyle

Later appearance editing is supported in the broad source boundary, but the exact per-slot furniture function remains unknown.

I found a Blueprint instead of Hair

Tamatebako has multiple reward categories. A Blueprint result is not evidence that its hairstyle category is complete.

I am playing Village in the Sunshine

Use the mode-specific null boundary. Do not claim an alternate Tamatebako hairstyle source until one is canonical.

FAQ

Yes. The protagonist can be customized with documented hair, clothing and accessory categories. Current Japanese data also separates front hair, back hair, hair color and a neck slot.

Yes. The starting appearance is not permanently locked. Current Japanese guides say that 鏡台 and 洋服棚 can change costumes and appearance later. Exact per-slot facility behavior remains unresolved.

You can reopen the documented appearance customization later, so you do not need to restart only because you dislike the starting look. This is not proof that the name, mode, body or every creator setting can be changed.

No. The protagonist name is fixed after confirmation. The current default Japanese name is Ame.

Front Hair, Back Hair and Hair Color are separate creation slots. Their later editor controls and option counts are not normalized in the current repository.

The working English label for 鏡台 is Dressing Table / Vanity. It belongs to the later appearance-edit system, but stable furniture IDs and exact slot coverage are still unknown.

洋服棚 is a working Wardrobe label. It belongs to the later appearance condition, but the repository does not prove whether it edits clothes only or overlaps with the Dressing Table.

Tamatebako has a hairstyle reward category during Midnight. The shared reward record does not provide canonical hairstyle IDs, names, count or duplicate rules.

The reward category is present, but probability, owned-pool filtering, duplicate behavior and permanent-unlock semantics are all null.

Chinana's Street Vendor is a documented source with daily rotating clothing and accessory records. The page shows verified records without claiming a complete fashion list.

Not proven. Furniture Catalog registration and player cosmetic unlocks are separate data boundaries, and the current cosmetic records use null Catalog tracking.

Hair color is a documented creation category, but a later hair-color control is not isolated in the current data. Treat the post-start result as unknown until direct UI evidence is available.

Shared customization support is recorded, but Tamatebako hairstyle accessibility, shop parity and alternate sources are unknown. Do not infer parity or unavailability.

No postgame rename route is recorded. Postgame cosmetic-editor availability is also null.
