Village in the Shade Furniture Placement Guide
Select furniture, preview its footprint, move it into valid open space and confirm. This page covers the placement system and its evidence limits, not furniture shopping, house construction or color recipes.
Placement system
Preview first. Confirm second.
The reliable common flow is selection, a semi-transparent preview, a valid free area and confirmation. Exact controls vary by platform and are not written as a universal button map.

Basic workflow
How to Place Furniture in Your House
The current evidence supports an action-based flow without inventing an inventory tab name or platform button.
Step 1
Prepare the item
Have the furniture in the carried-item selection interface. The current source set does not establish one universal menu label.
Step 2
Enter the home
Indoor placement is confirmed in the player home. The early home tutorial uses a bed as its placement example.
Step 3
Select the furniture
Choose the item through the current placement interface. Do not assume drag-and-drop or a separate Build Mode.
Step 4
Read the preview
A semi-transparent placement preview shows where the object would sit before confirmation.
Step 5
Find open floor
Move the preview away from walls, existing objects and other occupied space until it fits a valid area.
Step 6
Confirm the placement
Confirm the position, then walk the room and check access to the entrance, bed, storage and frequently used interactables.
Placement Preview
How the placement preview works
The preview is the important feedback state. Use it to test space before committing the object.
What is confirmed
The object previews before placement.
The current Japanese gameplay source shows a semi-transparent furniture preview and placement inside the home. It does not prove exact collision tiles, snap behavior, color states or a universal footprint size.

Rotation
Can You Rotate Furniture?
Keep the tutorial evidence narrow.
An early bed-placement tutorial shows an on-screen rotate prompt. That verifies rotation in at least one placement context, not every furniture item, every orientation or every platform control.
Controls: use the current on-screen prompt for your platform. No universal Switch, PS5, Steam or Windows button is published here.
Recovery
How to Move or Remove Furniture
回収 is visible, but its full item behavior is not.
Current gameplay footage shows a recovery or removal action for placed objects. The evidence does not establish whether every object is recoverable, where the item goes, whether a color variant is preserved, or how storage contents behave.
Direct drag repositioning is not verified. Treat moving as recover or remove followed by a new placement only when your current interface confirms that sequence.
Scope by item
Indoor and garden furniture are not one universal class
Use item-level records when they exist, and leave the rest unknown.
| Item | Placement scope | Rotation | Footprint | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ghost Shelfお化け棚 | Home | Not verified | Not verified | The current Night Furniture record explicitly marks the shelf as indoor. Its special Midnight function belongs to the Night Furniture Guide. |
| Jukeboxバイブス鬼アゲマシン | Garden and home | Not verified | Not verified | The repaired Jukebox is documented for the garden or home. This example does not expand the rule to every Night Furniture item. |
| Headless Japanese Doll頭のとれた日本人形 | Special event scope | Not verified | Not verified | This is a special event object that can be placed anywhere inside the player's house. Follow its dedicated event guide for disappearance and retry behavior. |
Some furniture is confirmed to work in the garden, but placement scope is item-specific where the current data does not define a universal rule. Do not use a wall-mounted or event-specific record to classify ordinary furniture.
Rugs and floor furniture
The current data does not verify whether all furniture can be placed over rugs, whether rugs block paths or how floor coverings affect collision.
Wall-mounted furniture
Wall placement, slots, indoor-only behavior and controls remain unknown. Dedicated Night Furniture records should be read through their own guide.
Stacking and footprints
No universal stacking rule or complete width and height table is established. The preview is safer than a guessed tile matrix.
System boundaries
Furniture placement is one part of decorating
Each neighboring guide owns a different action.
Furniture
The Furniture Guide owns acquisition sources and finished-item versus blueprint boundaries.
Buildings
Buildings and House Renovation own construction, expansion and remodel costs. Buildings are not ordinary inventory furniture.
Shops
Shops and Shop Inventory Unlocks own purchase sources, rotation and stock.
Dyeing Table
Use the Dyeing Table for compatible furniture recoloring. It is not the placement tool.
Catalog variants
The Catalog owns completion and variant registration. A color record does not prove a universal placement variant.
Night and machines
Night Furniture owns paranormal mechanics. Machine Parts owns the Jukebox repair chain. Functional equipment is not automatically ordinary furniture.
House relationship
Keep decorating space separate from construction
A larger house changes the available room, but its construction rules belong elsewhere.
- Initial house: the early tutorial introduces home placement with a bed and an open floor area.
- Expansion: Kisuke construction and house remodeling own requirements and costs.
- After a remodel: furniture relocation behavior is not independently verified here.
- Practical advice: keep a clear path between entrance, bed, storage and frequently used interactables.
Acquisition overview
Get the item first, then place it
This guide does not duplicate a furniture database.
Furniture can come from shops, Workbench blueprints, Festivals, Helping rewards, Night Furniture and special event chains. Start with the Furniture and Decoration Guide, then use Crafting Blueprints or Night Furniture when the source is specific.
The announced Furniture Ordering Catalog remains future content as of September 16, 2026. It does not change the current placement workflow.
Patch context
Historical furniture placement bugs
These reports explain older warnings without turning them into current gameplay rules.
Historical and fixed
Initial-house Midnight blockage and Spring 5 field access
Official issue notes recorded a specific Midnight home event blockage when furniture was placed in a particular location in the initial house. They also recorded a Spring 5 crop tutorial blockage when furniture or fences enclosed the field. The affected platform patches fixed these cases in August 2026, with platform-specific version numbers. They are not current normal placement restrictions.
The official current issue page did not identify a remaining unresolved furniture-placement issue in this audit. Keep the game updated and use the current interface if a new placement problem appears.
Troubleshooting
Why Won't This Furniture Place?
Check the ordinary placement causes before treating a failed preview as a bug.
1. Item type
Confirm that you selected placeable furniture rather than a building, machine, crop, floor, fence or event object with its own mechanic.
2. Supported area
Check whether the item has an explicit home, garden, wall or special scope. Do not assume every object works indoors and outdoors.
3. Open space
Move the preview away from walls, existing objects and occupied floor. Try a larger open area without guessing exact tile clearance.
4. Orientation
If the current interface shows a rotate prompt, try the supported orientation. Do not assume every object is rotatable.
5. Event object
Special event furniture can have event-specific placement or use behavior. Open its dedicated guide before applying ordinary rules.
6. Access path
If placement succeeds but a path is blocked, use the current placement or removal interface to reopen the route. Exact recovery behavior is not universalized.
Do not delete a save or use an old workaround for the historical bugs above. Those cases were fixed in the affected August 2026 patches.
FAQ
Furniture placement questions
Answers stay limited to current, source-backed mechanics.
How do you place furniture?
Select a placeable furniture item from the carried-item interface while in the home, move its placement preview to valid free space and confirm the placement.
Can you place furniture inside the house?
Yes. Indoor furniture placement in the player's home is documented. The exact menu label and platform button are not universal in the current source set.
Can furniture be placed outside?
Some items are confirmed outside. The Jukebox is documented for the garden or home, but outdoor scope remains item-specific rather than universal.
How do you rotate furniture?
Some placement footage shows an on-screen rotate prompt, including the early bed tutorial. The universal furniture rule, orientation count and platform buttons are not verified.
Can every furniture item rotate?
Not verified. Do not treat the bed tutorial prompt as proof that every furniture item can rotate.
How do you move or remove furniture?
A recovery or removal action is visible in current gameplay footage. The destination, returned item behavior and direct move mode are not independently verified.
Can furniture be placed on rugs?
Not verified. The current data does not establish universal rug overlap rules.
Can wall furniture be placed anywhere?
Not verified. Wall-mounted Night Furniture has its own records, but no universal wall-slot or placement rule is established.
Why will furniture not place?
Confirm that the item is placeable furniture, that the area supports it and that the preview fits in open space. Move away from walls or occupied objects and try a larger area.
Can furniture block doors or paths?
Furniture can make paths harder to use when packed tightly. Keep practical access to the entrance, bed, storage and frequently used interactables. Exact clearance is not documented.
Can furniture be recolored?
Compatible furniture can be recolored with the Dyeing Table. Compatibility and variant registration belong to the Dyeing Table and Catalog authorities.
Where do you get furniture?
Use Shops, Workbench and Blueprint Sources, Festivals, Helping rewards, Night Furniture and other source-specific guides. This page covers placement after acquisition.
Does house expansion give more decorating space?
A larger house changes available space, but construction requirements and remodel behavior belong to the Buildings and House Renovation guides.
Can furniture block Midnight events?
Older builds had a specific initial-house Midnight event blockage. Official patches fixed it across affected platforms; it is historical context, not a current normal placement rule.
