Village in the Shade Game Modes

Village in the Shade offers two modes: ほの暮しモード for the full standard experience and あんしん暮しモード, marketed in English as Village in the Sunshine, for a safer life-simulation route. Earlier Western materials referred to this option as Peaceful Life Mode.

Both options are built around life in Kagatsu Village, including farming, livestock, fishing, hunting, home customization, seasonal activities and relationships with villagers. The main confirmed difference is whether the player can violate the village code and approach the darker side of Kagatsu. Sunshine keeps the shared opening setup, then does not continue the normal rule-breaking story or ending route.

The mode is chosen when a save is started and cannot be changed during that playthrough. Farming, livestock, fishing and hunting remain available at a high level, while exact parity for specialist systems, achievements and alternate item sources remains evidence-bounded.

Current released-game evidence is separated from subsystem details that remain unresolved.
