Fishing and pond guide

Fish Pond Breeding Guide

Fish Pond breeding starts with at least two fish of the same species and bait in the pond. A standard Fish Pond holds 10 fish, while the Large Fish Pond holds 30. Exact probabilities and fixed breeding intervals are not established.

The practical rule is: same species + at least two fish + available pond space + pond bait. Treat every claim beyond that as source-dependent; do not assume a daily offspring or a guaranteed result.

Core mechanic

How Fish Pond Breeding Works

The reliable setup is short. The unknown probability is the important boundary.

01

Build a pond

Order the canonical Fish Pond through Kisuke's construction service.

02

Choose one species

Put at least two fish with the same stable species record into the pond.

03

Leave room

Do not fill the pond blindly if you want a possible offspring; exact capacity blocking behavior is not independently documented.

04

Set pond bait

Set Chum or another bait supported by the shared fishing-bait record. The exact pond modifier and duration are unknown.

05

Check periodically

Reproduction can fail or take an unknown amount of time. No daily guarantee is published.

The phrase “at least two” is a minimum condition, not a promise that two fish reproduce on the next check. More same-species fish are reported to improve the chance, but exact percentages are intentionally omitted.

Bait

How Bait Affects Fish Pond Breeding

Pond bait is not the same claim as a fishing-only catch-rate bonus.

What is supported

Chum is the basic bait used in the documented pond breeding setup. Quality Bait and White Bait are also recorded as compatible with Fish Ponds, but their exact breeding modifiers remain unknown.

Chum

Basic pond bait and breeding-operation requirement.

Quality Bait

Provides stronger temporary fishing assistance at fishing spots and is compatible with Fish Ponds.

White Bait

Improves the chance of hooking rare fish, including making Nushi easier to target.

What is not supported

  • No universal numeric breeding modifier.
  • No confirmed one-bait-per-pond rule.
  • No verified consumption timing or duration.
  • No proof that White Bait improves pond breeding specifically.
  • No fixed daily check or guaranteed offspring interval.

Compatibility

Which Fishing Records Are Pond-Compatible?

This page reuses the 41 canonical stable IDs and does not decide eligibility from display-name matching.

Normal records

29 records

The breeding source describes fish generally, but it does not independently enumerate all 29 normal IDs as accepted pond species.

Nushi / albino

6 records

6 canonical records carry pond-compatible community notes with minimumSameFish 2; exact chance remains unknown.

Cursed records

6 records

Placement and breeding are not verified. Do not inherit normal or Nushi behavior.

Other aquatic catches

Stable IDs audited

Sawagani, crayfish, crabs, turtles and frogs are not automatically pond-compatible just because they appear in the fishing dataset.

The full 41-record compatibility audit is internal research. Public guidance stays category-level where the source does not establish a per-ID answer; this avoids turning fishing-table membership into a pond promise.

Can Nushi Fish Breed in Fish Ponds?

The six Nushi/albino records are the only current canonical entries carrying pond-compatible notes. They require the same cautious interpretation as the general mechanic: at least two of the same stable record, bait behavior not numerically specified, and no guaranteed outcome.

See Nushi catching conditions →

Can Cursed Fish Go in Fish Ponds?

The six Cursed Fish remain a separate Midnight fishing system. Current research does not verify pond placement, breeding, bait compatibility or reproduction for those IDs, so this page does not recommend putting them in a pond.

Management boundary

Adding, Removing and Emptying a Pond

The source set explains the breeding condition but not the inventory interaction in enough detail to publish a button-by-button answer.

Adding fish

The sources confirm that fish can be put into a pond, but do not reliably document whether this uses a held fish, a selection menu, a direct interaction or another exact UI path.

Removing fish

No checked source confirms rod, net, menu or pickup behavior. The page does not promise that removal returns the fish to inventory.

Empty/reset

Whether a pond can be emptied, reset or have its species changed is unresolved. Keep a reserve pond if you are testing compatibility.

Troubleshooting

Why Aren't My Fish Reproducing?

Run the source-backed checks first, then allow for an unknown random outcome.

1.There are fewer than two fish of the same species.
2.The fish only look similar; check the canonical species record rather than the display family.
3.The pond has little or no free capacity.
4.Pond bait has not been set, or its unknown duration/effect has been misunderstood.
5.You are testing an unresolved category such as Cursed Fish, crab, crayfish or Frog.
6.You expected a daily or guaranteed result; the reliable source does not publish one.

A full pond may leave no room for an offspring, but the current source set does not directly document the failure behavior at capacity. Treat free capacity as prudent management, not a published hard formula.

FAQ

Fish Pond Breeding FAQ

Visible answers use the same evidence limits as the guide and its structured FAQ schema.

How do fish reproduce in Fish Ponds?

Keep at least two fish of the same species in a pond and keep pond bait set according to the current Japanese guidance. Reproduction is probabilistic rather than a documented guarantee; exact timing and offspring count are not verified.

How many fish do I need for breeding?

At least two fish of the same species. Two arbitrary fish are not a safe breeding rule.

How many fish fit in a Fish Pond?

A standard Fish Pond holds 10 fish. The current building record also documents a maximum of 3 standard Fish Ponds.

How many fish fit in a Large Fish Pond?

The Large Fish Pond holds 30 fish and is the Fish Pond remodel route. Construction cost, materials and duration are owned by the Buildings guide.

How do I unlock the Large Fish Pond?

Complete all four Fish Delivery Catalog groups: Small Fish, Medium Fish, Large Fish and Phantom Fish. Then open Kisuke's remodel menu for an existing Fish Pond.

Can I mix different fish species in one pond?

The current reliable sources establish same-species pairs for reproduction but do not establish a safe mixed-species rule or independent per-species behavior. Keep one target species per pond when you want an evidence-bounded setup.

Does bait increase fish reproduction?

Pond bait is part of the documented reproduction setup, and more same-species fish are reported to improve the chance. No reliable source establishes a universal numeric modifier, duration or consumption rule.

What is the exact breeding chance?

Current reliable sources do not establish a universal exact percentage. Do not publish a daily rate, fixed interval or guaranteed-after-N-days promise.

Can Nushi Fish breed in ponds?

The six canonical Nushi records carry pond-compatible, community-reported notes and a same-fish minimum of 2. Treat that as a cautious compatibility signal, not a verified universal Nushi probability.

Can Cursed Fish breed in ponds?

No reliable source currently establishes pond placement or breeding for the six Cursed Fish records. Do not inherit normal or Nushi behavior.

Can crabs or frogs go in Fish Ponds?

The 41-record fishing dataset includes non-fish catches, but current pond compatibility is not verified for Sawagani, Japanese Crayfish, Japanese Mitten Crab or Frog. Their fishing-table presence is not proof of pond eligibility.

Why aren't my fish breeding?

Check the same-species pair first, then confirm that the pond has room and that pond bait is set. After that, allow for an unknown random check; no fixed timing or percentage is published.

Does Fish Pond breeding work in every season?

The current pond sources do not document a season, weather or winter shutdown rule. Do not import the original fishing conditions into pond reproduction.

Do fish need feeding or can they die?

Bait is documented as part of pond operation, but exact feeding schedule, starvation, mortality and maintenance rules remain unresolved. The page does not claim that fish die when bait is missed.

How do I remove fish from the pond?

The checked sources do not document the exact retrieval interaction, whether fish return to inventory, or whether a pond can be emptied/reset. Do not assume rod, net, menu or shipment behavior.

Practical setup

How Many Fish Should You Keep?

Use open capacity as a strategy recommendation, not a hidden hard rule.

Standard Fish Pond

The pond holds 10 fish. A practical setup keeps roughly 6 to 8 fish, depending on how much room you want to leave for offspring. Around 8 occupied slots is a recommendation, not a universal optimum.

Large Fish Pond

The remodel holds 30 fish. Roughly 26 to 28 occupied slots leaves about 2 to 4 spaces open. More same-species fish can improve the chance, but no fixed formula or faster timer is confirmed.

Mixed-species behavior is not established. Breeding requires at least two fish of the same species, but the sources do not prove that a pond must contain only one species.

Use the Chief Deliveries Guide for all four Fish Delivery groups and the Large Fish Pond category reward.
